Hi there.

Most people think I am dead mostly because well I havn't gotten back to using live journal at home/work.

For those people haven't kept up with me my picture posting at Kurst Hyperyote Web Site Photography Section still going strong.

I'm now struggling with XMAS idea for my Canon camera. I kind of want to get it a new treat to help improve my photography. I have right now a Super Zoom Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC, a prime lens Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM and the "kit" lens EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. I do love my Tamron it's nice having a wide range on the lens, Image Stablization in a lens helps, but it's very soft on the upper range.

While they are doing the purpose I think I either need to get a lower range (like a 10-18 zone), a even wider super zoom (the Tamron AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC, or something that has higher quality either in low or upper range (example canon 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS or canon 70-200 F/4L) . I seem to take a lot of pics in the 150-300 range so it might be interesting to get something there. Since money is tight I am not going to be spending a thousand on a lens or accesories.

Heck I might be good and shoudln't upgrade.

Wonderful

Gamestop (Eb games/etc) didn't send me a pre-order code for Little Big Planet. After calling them on it they were like "well it was for a limited time and if you don't have it by now so sorry..." great.....

So if any body has an extra code or is going to their local US gamestop/ebgames please ask them if they have an extra preorder code it would be very appreciative. It's not like i didn't preorder the game!

But still I have to plan that Kratos is out of my reach...... Damn it....

If this is the worse thing that happens to me this week I should be happy.

Another month another convention.. Oh wait this is WORK!

Some of you may know that I am going to Vegas in the future.

Well the odd thing is this is a fully paid full work conference and exhibition. AKA convention.

Because of all the sci-fi/fantasy conventions I have been doing for 20+ years planning that is almost the same thing.

It follows the basic format.

Pre convention mixer - dance (WEEE), then a few stragling programs before the opening cerimonies and then BOOM everything going on most of the time 20 events in the same hour with at least 5 you want to see ;). Then at night private parties and the mid convention night center show - usually around some sort of comedy and the event itself. Combine that with the exhibit hall(dealer room) with a dealer for every 15 people with hours that conicide with major events making sure you can't see them all. PLUS - Post con closing and stragling events

I have books and paper out plotting my convention my co-worker who asked if I went to this convention before because I just SEEM to know what to look for, where to go, and how to schedule time for events.

But never been there... So this will be fun.... I hope. Well at least they are paying for everything ;)

Well I am experimenting

As you know my own home page at Hyperyote.com has been getting updates at a good clip in the Photography section. I'm surprised it is only 194 pictures up there. But I should hit 200 before the end of this month. Which seems to be a lot but I'm sure compared to most people's site it's not even a drop in a bucket.

Since the goal of most of these pictures is helping out artists and other admires of art I decided maybe I should make a Fur Affinity account located at http://www.furaffinity.net/user/kurst/. I am putting up a few pictures there and seeing if people accept it and would like to see more there. Mind you I would probably not put most of my pictures up there just a few - since it seems the site frowns on using it to hold pictures.

It just I want my goal to help out friends and artists and this may be a good way to do it.

Opinions or thoughts are welcome.

Well it's that time of the year.

The spring picnic get together. Put on by SNCFurs the local Minnesota anthropomorphic community but is open to anyone. No invitation needed just a liking to get around people in the community.

Friday the 16, 2008 starts it off with a get together to watch Prince Caspian. Followed by a small get together at Appleby's whenever the movie get off.

Saterday the 17 - Starting at 4 o'clock till whenever we need to leave the picnic. Pot lot picnic with events schedule. Standard stuff eating, drinking, fursuit, art, rpg, etc. Programs are available with the details of the event.

Sunday the 18th - Minnesota Zoo get together to check out the zoo is the end of the events.

The 17th is free, the 16 and 18 happenings will cost whatever the admissions are.

I hope to make all 3 events. It should be a good gathering it seems to attract a few people every year.

(From my Photo Gallery)

I plan to go to the NEW Zoo while I am there if I am lucky an animal MAY BE walking while we are there. Unfortunately we are probably going later in the day than the morning.

I am also working on comics - yes you know COMICS this week. The final PUSH before printing for Anthrocon is going on at that is consuming my time. Lots of fun with that.

In convention planing *GAH* got the Anthrocon zooming in. We are trying to pull ourselves together to do something for the con but we had a lot of things conspire.

Have something major to say about Anthrocon but that is coming up soon.

Anyways my goal of 30 pictures posted in my Photography Gallery will happen. Since a few are not that “great quality” wise I am posting a few more to make it up. Tonight will be canine picture night

At work my supervisor that hired me is leaving. Hopefully not permanently but at least for a month. What she is doing is trying to launch her new company and she is going to China to look at building her dream products. So If she comes back she will be in a more "lower end" part-time position. Unfortunately she was one of the reasons I went to that place. Fortunately the place rocks. So I think people are going to be trying to make sure I am happy the next few weeks which will be flipping annoying....

About two weekends ago I was at the Minnesota Zoo (the people that help fund WolfQuest: Amethyst Mountains Deluxe Edition) with my good friend yarrick. I know that's hard to believe but it was true I was at the zoo!

While we are there we went over at the mexican wolves exhibit. I was letting Yarrick borrow my camera at the time and we were both observing the wolves.

The mexican wolves were particular active that day - walking pacing getting up, sitting down, some interactions with the environment. When a little kid making lots of noises and waving little arms came close to the window. Now with the way the glass was I thought you couldn't see but one of the wolves walked by the window and stopped.

The wolf looked into the window.
The little child making little noises moved and held out his sandwich.
The wolf started to turn away and then leaped at the glass pounding on it with his front feet. Jaws snarling and snapping he would land and then get on his hind paws and literally smack his forward paws forward as high as he can into the glass. His muddy paws smearing up the glass.

The kid didn't know what to make out of it. The mother watching in confused look.

The wolf continue to do that as the kid held out his sandwich making noises of confusion. The mother then has a epiphany I guess.

"He just wants your sandwich" she keeps repeating to the boy. The boy then puts it away and the wolf still continues. The boy moves to a different window to the right and the wolf follows tries to gnaw at the frame at the structure and then wood in front of it. All the while the kid making noises somewhat confused noises.

Eventually the mother stopped teasing the wolf by taking out her "sandwich" aka the little boy out of the gazebo as soon as the boy was out of ear and visual shot. *Snap* he went back to his ways. It was amazing to watch the behavior.

I asked Yarrick if I could have the picture to work on and if he could allowed me to do my normal touch ups and make it my own derivative work. He agreed to and this is my version of the picture he took with my camera. I figure in a few more weeks he will have his version up.

Now can't we allow this wolf to get his sandwich?

Well lets see schedule. This weekend other than practicing camera work. I am working on RPG and comics.

Next weekend Coffee show. Then a break. Then the three day local picnic event. So that covers my whole weekend with event activities and panels. Then the week after is Werepuppy's GOH. And then the moth is over.

Looking at that I was TEMPTED to visit family next month but I am going to push it back to June before con. Lots of running around. Hey you got to keep busy!

The posting a picture a day hasn’t lost moment yet to me. I doubt I will be able to keep up. I am going to try to actually make sure I pick pictures I like not just filler. Of course some will be more likable than others but hey I am going to be moving forward.

Kurst Photogallery Page is the page where you can catch up.

Wasn't having that great of a day yesterday. I kept on dropping stuff or things kept falling down. For example I tried to move my 32" television in the living room. Mind you most people are thinking flat panel. WRONG - Sony Trinitron tube. Huge SONY TRINITRON TUBE. As "luck" would have it as I started to move the beast my right hand actually slightly gave out. The whole thing crashed on top of my arm and Wii. Both took a few scraches and bruises but I think long term me and my Wii will be fine.

But yeah I could go on and whine about yesterday and the day before but instead here is a Omega Mexican Wolf.

Been in the background helping out and porting up the code to FurEauction.

This is one of the odd things where it's not the code itself falling over itself going to the new version but the DB. The fixes for the database isn't hard itself it's just testing all the cases. What's nice is that I have been adding extra catches and traps so it's easier to maintain.

I'm more or less have the code sitting in waiting to launch for last month doing tests off and on and well waiting for a down town. I have to spend about an hour or so to to move and reset up the site.

So nice to see it on new platform so I can work hard core on it again :)

A few days ago I got a best buy package. I was confused I havn't ordered anything from best buy for weeks.

So I opened it was this nifty package you hit the mouse button and poof a Best Buy birthday gift card pops up. This was a clever design, almost as clever as the Best Buy LCD programmable gift card.

This would been a perfect gift if... It listed WHO gave it. No card, no message, no even "person x bought it". very confused but grateful i got it.

I asked family members and none admitted to it. I figure in a few days it would be revealed. and a few days past. It took my birthday someone ask if it came.

Moral: If a web site doesn't mention gift stuff or have a write area expect it not to show your name or show the prices.

FurEauction relaunch

Hello,

For the last couple months I have been working with a few other people to relaunch FurEauction.

It is now time to be a little more public about it.

The reasons why FurEauction was created is the same reasons as before. From a "does it work" standard the site works pretty well.

What I am looking at this point is comments. Good or bad.

My concerns are
A) General auction experience. IS the forms too complex for the users. Does it need to be made into two pages. Or have an "extended" page after auction.
B) Adult entry (How the adult entry comes off).
C) Feature set
D) English - The help to the text on the screen is written in Yotease. Hard to understand but mostly accurate.

On the dock is the ability to add selections for categories. LIke is this picture a dog, cat etc. Does it have male, female. And full filtering/search capabilities. The problem with this feature is how many items you need. I also do not want an initial "block everything" mode since this would kill the front page.

Anyways ideas and thoughts please feel free to post.

Kurst

Remember me

Hello,

When was the last time I posted in my LiveJournal - Don't look. It's probably the list time I read my friend list.

The last year was bizarrely busy and well went the wrong way. It's been 2 months since I got my new job and overall it has been the life changing experience I expected to have. While it has added to at least 1 hour to my travels each day I work a lot less at work now.

The word "A Lot Less" is applied here. In the last two months I worked more than 8 hours a day has been umm twice. And yes I am salary and working as a Software Developer.

My last job I was a Senior Software Developer - so doing the role of a software developer is theoretically a step down. But in this case it's a step up in all ways. Strangely I have more power designing a solution at this job then in my Senior position back at the other company.

For those that wonder - I currently work in Visual C# .net, Pre .net asp module, Java, PHP, and Perl in a professional level. AT my current job I do mostly C# .net 2.0, Java, and pre .net asp. I've also done some small work in Python and Ruby on Rails recently. I feel some days I have to have fist fights with myself on languages and platforms ;)

I haven't told people formally but I am getting back to my pre 2006 development cycles. I have been really working on some of my favorite old code sites. Rabbit Valley of course is number 1 priority. But I am going back with the original people who worked with me on FurEauction. The highest priority will be port it to the latest and greatest DB and development language and then look at usability and new functions. I really loved designing the bidding back end and can't wait to re-look at it the whole code base again. Mind you most of the time I will be yelling at myself for coding the way I did but code styles change and improve over time. I can always rewrite it if I don't like it that much.

I might be doing other things too but I want to get my house in order and really work out the best things to do first for myself and other.

And yes I will do a reasonable update to Rog Minotaur's site this week.

And most important the comics. I am going back to a more stronger role in the comic process for Spooo and other comics at Rabbit Valley. I personally want to improve the quality and improve the quantity of comics we do a year. Maybe I can help on that maybe I can't but at least I can try.

Okay I am hoping to write more later and actually use this account. Good luck everyone and I hope I'm back.

Starting to get back my grove

yeah starting to actually be on the net is kind like an innovation.

being at a "hell" job for 1 1/2+ years caused me to go away from the network. Which is good and bad. I mean my world of warcraft playing is now down to zero but knowing what to do at home is literally weird.

The good news is I am playing my 360 a lot more. A LOT more. Starting to even go back to my older games.

But I got to say one quick thing.

My view this xmas.

Wii - I can't believe it's in the current state of "can't find anywhere" still. It's amazing it's gone this long. Also amazing that Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid 3 did turn out so good for gamers. The reason why my Mom bought the Wii is still there - It's a fun system. But now it's getting into a better grove with some decent games making it have no question why I have it. I still scratch my head about the online strategy, the lack of storage for anything but a few small games and a lot of saves. but overall it's not killers it's a great unit if you can find it.

XBOX 360 - The games companies are hitting their strides the games coming out fast, furious and very good. I can't believe I bought as many Xbox live arcade titles like everything from Space Giraffe to Hardwood Hearts but I did. My 360 colleciton is my largest. And everything about it feels solid. Except XBox Live - I still think the gold thing sucks - making multiplayer sucks just gives microsoft more money. But in their defense they have the smoothest multiplayer experience. Something no one else can claim. them improving the backwards compatibility and starting include xbox games for download is a shrewd move. Now lets just hope my 360 never dies.

PS3 - Everytime they do something I think in the right direction they take two steps back. Lets take the PS3 80 gig - Better price, perfect packin. but backwards compatibility takes a nose dive. In fact I had a lot of friends who had to return the 80 gig to get the 60 gig because of compatibility. Now the 40 gigs are coming out with the backwards strip. I mean this is only to really sell PS3 games. This is just idiotoc I am explaining to coworkers "No the system can't run PS2 games even if the sales person says so" or "The PS3 40 gig will not be getting PS2 backwards compatibility soon evecn though the sales person". I had another person trying to tell a person who was returning a 80 gig unit that the PS2 compatibility will improve. Mind you the majority of the PS3 are probally going to slowly shift to 40 gigs...... I'm still seeing 3rd parties having framerate issues on games and getting content on the PSN. It comes to a point if a game is on 2 console I'm now just picking the 360 version by default. The other problem is I am still waiting for the unique games on PS3. Super Stardust HD so far is awesome. but honestly i have only like 4 games on PS3 - and VF5 i feel ripped out since the 360 version has multiplayer over net. a lot of their exclusives have been meh or not bad. Rachet and Clank is definatly a highlight - i mean at worse for people who don't own ps3 there is new art for it on the boards at best it's a solid game. And of course Uncharted: Drake's fortune original ray of light showing what the PS3 could do amoung the array of ports.

The big last thing is Rock Band - If I had to choose one game to play for a month it's that game. Solid gameplay, solid music, solid fun. yes I went through one controller but it's already replaced. But there is something about singing "Creep" or playing guitar to Juke Box Hero that inspires. And more important as you play the game the more you feel like a star - something guitar hero 3 never made me feel. Great game. Great waste of time!

Thanks and have a great one

End of a job ramblings

Two weeks ago I resign my job. I was "generous" and gave a week notice.

To be honest - if it was any place else I would of gave two week notice but I never EVER want to be contacted by these people. And every person that left before said even a day was too unbearable to give. Just leave!

From a personal work experience it was an eye opener - from a skill point of view all the skills people said I had ... that I personally never felt I had or prove I had in this job I shined.

In the working with people it was awesome except for a few people. Unfortunately, they were upper management. They expected 80 hour weeks as a minimum until things calm down just next week. They hoped to get 100-120 hour weeks. Since they can never estimate a project or an idea. next week is always months - years away. The work never was satisfying because of that.

And what was worse is I never had the respect back I expected in someone who was producing miracles every day. I was the lead tech, the senior engineer but wasn't allowed an opinion on even a variable name or a db table schematic. This is WHY I was hired, this why I am been doing programming since I was 10 and professionally for a ...pauses... A substantial time ;) (I won't date myself too much ;) )

I dreaded each day going to work. I was hoping they would go bankrupt so I wouldn't have to resign. Every day it effected Rog Minotaur's Art and Spooo Comics to the point where I had to delay/rush things out when I wanted to take more time. And heck their websites are now on the wayside needing a desperate coat of paint.

So after one and half years of this I decided it was time. I was made out the bad guy dropping out before things were good - but I was given the same speeches - the same "rewards" told to me for one and half years. I had to make it stop.

In the end - I did it for my health and sanity. And be able to be me.

So hopefully I can start blogging again. But more important I will be able to do what I like to do best again.

Helping people and artists out.

Monday will be first new day at a new job - I should write something about this and my fears. But at least I hope for a smooth and happy transition.
